Lawyers can also be Notaries
Here in British Columbia, Lawyers are both Notaries and Lawyers.
That in practical terms means that lawyers can provide the services of a Notary and can provide additional legal services that a Notary cannot provide. Notaries do not represent clients in court and cannot get involved in litigation. Lawyers may represent clients on all legal matters, inside and outside of the courtroom.
It is also a common misconception that notaries charge less for services they are able to provide.
In many communities where there are both lawyers and notaries, the fees charged by both are competitive.
