Joint Tenants vs. Tenants-in-Common
When asked about the title to their homes, most people will respond with the names of people with whom they share title. When asked if the people on title are on as joint tenants or tenants-in-common, they usually don’t know.
Joint Tenancy
When a property is held in joint tenancy, when one joint tenant dies, the entire property belongs to the remaining, surviving joint tenant.
Tenants-in-Common
Tenants-in-common differs in that each person owns a half, or third or some other portion that belongs only to them.
